Mata Muros - Seattle Muralists

Photography | Monday 8 October 2007 11:45 pm

I had the pleasure of doing a small informal shoot last Saturday for Mata Muros, Seattle-based muralist company. They were in the middle of a job to complete a mural for Noc On Wood Records on the corner of Fairview and Thomas in downtown Seattle.

I met one of the Mata Muros artists, Jill Rothenberger, a few weeks ago at a friend’s birthday and we’ve been in contact trying to plot out when would be a good time for me to go shoot them in action. I got a call last Saturday afternoon since there was a lucky break with the weather and they were planning on setting up for a few hours. I ran home to grab my gear before heading out to meet them. I got a few great photos, but mostly they were pretty drab due to the poor lighting. I had to spend more time in Lightroom than I would have liked, but I did manage to find a cool preset that helps me replicate the saturated look of Velvia film. Sweet!

The complete set is on Flickr with some samples shown below.

Seattle Flickr Photo Show

Photography | Saturday 6 October 2007 10:02 am

Myself and 19 other photographers from the Seattle Flickr group showing a series of photographs at Cafe Vega for nearly a month, running October 7th through November 3rd.

We’re having an “opening” next Friday, October 12 from 7 to 9pm. It’s nothing fancy, just a few bottles of wine and you’ll get to meet myself and the other artists represented in the show.  Would love to have you stop by on your way to your other Friday night plans.

For those keeping track, this is my second public showing, although this one I may be more excited about since it’s more glitzy with the formality of an opening. If you can’t make the opening on the 12th, drop by any time starting this Sunday and let me know what you think!

A Million Little Pictures

Photography | Thursday 27 September 2007 3:18 pm

This sounds like fun, so I’m passing it along hoping that Seattle wins the final showing.

A Million Little Pictures is a photo exhibition run by an art coop. Everyone’s photos are welcome, everyone shoots with the same camera, and the exhibition might come to you!

The deets:

Send in $16 by October 1st, and they’ll send you a disposable camera.
Snap photos on the theme (”Adventure”) and send it back by Nov 20th.
They develop the photos and ready them for exhibition.

The twist: They haven’t decided which city the exhibition will be in, and every camera counts as a vote for your city. Get friends to join in the fun to increase your city’s odds! (This one’s only open to people in the USA)

You have to sign-up and pay the $16 fee by Paypal by October 1st.

Re-designed my portfolio

Personal, Photography | Monday 24 September 2007 1:17 am

I spent quite a few hours today customizing my portfolio that I have hosted on Smugmug.  It’s such a pain in the butt to customize anything through SmugMug since I have to override everything with their rudimentary customization UI using javascript and CSS hacks.

I’m pretty happy with it now and have to work on getting the “search” page to work so there’s an easy way for visitors to find photos based on keywords or dates.

Drop by and let me know what you think of the new layout and customizations.
