Bryan: You aren't stuck with 32-bit per-se, you can always re-install 64-bit later on but you'd need to do a "custom installation" which is essentially a clean install which won't migrate your installed apps or data. In a custom installation, your "windows" folder is moved to "windows.old" for you to access.

Trevin,

My current system is only 32 bit compatible, but in the future I would like to upgrade it to be 64 bit compatible. If I load Windows 7 home premium as 32 bit when I recieve my upgrade disc, can I later re-install my Windows 7 Home Premium as 64 bit when my computer hardware is upgraded?

In other words, am I stuck with 32 bit upgrade once I load it, or can I later re-install Windows 7 with 64 bit version using my upgrade disc (after reverting to my Vista build of course)?

Nathan: You can upgrade from 32-bit Vista OS to 64-bit Windows 7, however, you will be forced to do a "clean install" which means none of your apps and data will be available in the new installation of Windows 7. Your old windows folder should be available in "Windows.old" folder, but for all intents and purposes, you will have to start over from scratch.

hi Trevin

I am planning on doing the windows 7 upgrade by buying a new laptop before I go to uni in september therefore being elegible to upgrade the laptop running vista to windows 7 free of charge...

i have seen a very good spec laptop in comet, but it has a 32bit operating system but with a 64bit processor...

would i be elegible to upgrade from this 32bit vista OS to a 64bit windows 7 OS? i heard it would not be the case and would only be like for like?

cheers, would be grateful of a definate answer!

"32-bit and 64-bit are included as a part of Windows 7 Home Premium as well, and all editions from other retailers in this pre-order"

Hello,

in the EU, I can preorder Seven Home Premium E. It costs 49,99 Euro. Do I also get 32-bit and 64-bit simultaneously by ordering one pre-order-kit?

Thank you!

Thank you so much Trevin!!! Ordering right now!

Also, congrats to MS on Win7. I think it's going to be a real hit with the public. Personally, I think Vista is fine.... the only major issue is that it really does require a significant H/W boost over XP to get the OS to perform even basic tasks with acceptable performance. Even on a 2.66Ghz Core2Duo with 2GB of RAM, basic file I/O operations like doing a file move of 2 GB of data, and then canceling the operation, would often result in the OS seeming to hang for 2-3 minutes doing God knows what... And the constant indexing and who knows what other things Vista seems to be constantly performing in the background that rob performance & compute cycles from foreground apps.

Any ways, enough complaining. Thanks for the Info! 2 more licenses of Win7 Home Premium on order! :)
