I don't know the reasons why IE doesn't have a download manager, nor do I
know the future plans for IE. The Microsoft Store Download Manager is used
only for our downloads from our store.

So why doesn't Microsoft include a download manager in IE? The http server spec has had file chunking in it forever so why isn't this standard functionality for downloads from every browser? As a web developer can I use the Microsoft Store Download Manager to deliver files to clients by using some special http, javascript or ActiveX call?

thanks for responding Trevin, I am using a different PC with IE7, and it's all working - there must be a setting in IE8 that's stopping the activex from installing.\regards Andrew

Andrew: The download process for the Windows 7 RC actually uses a different download manager than what we built for Microsoft Store. For the Windows 7 RC, we have hosted the ISO on Akamai to make the file transfers much faster and hence use the Akamai download manager.

I just tried going through the Win7 RC download process again to see if I could reproduce your issue and I didn't experience what you described. After signing in with my Windows Live ID and filling in the brief profile information, I was shown the download page. I clicked on "Download Now" and I was prompted to install the Akamai Download Manager, which I was able to do without any issues. The only thing I can suggest is to try an alternate browser like Firefox and see if you still encounter the issue?
