I have been using Carbonite with WHS with 2 pooled drive. I have a third drive in the server but it is not pooled by WHS. I put the items on this drive that I want to back up to carbonite. I would like a way to sync the shared folders to this drive automatically. Does anyone know a way to do this?

I am running Carbonite and have the same "file pending backup due to permissions" issue that most others have reported... I have found that if I remove and then add them back to the backup, they will backup fine... weird.

I haven't tried Carbonite for about 1.5-2 years now since my 1st test with them was a complete disaster.
I tried to install it on a Win2003 server that has just some users files on it. Well..., after a week of backup on a 10-Mmit private fiber line I had NO idea what it actually backed up! The % back was going from 10% to 60% to whatever other random number. Their support NEVER replied to my request in 30 trial days.

So.., now I am thinking of possibly giving them a 2nd chance... it's either that or MS gay Folder Duplication that will waste half of my 10T array.

WHS works just fine for me with WHS. Since the D:\shares essentially links to all of my external drives, I can easily have it backup all of my content. I have had no issues with permissions. Files are backing up without a hitch no matter if they are in the D drive. My tip would be to make sure you are logging onto the server as "Administrator" Reply if you want and i can try and help!

As of 7/6/2009, still no Mozy support for WHS. See Mozy support chat below:

Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Chandra '
Chandra : Welcome to Mozy Live Support. May I have your account email address please?
todd: email is ######@gmail.com
Chandra : Thanks.
todd: hello, can you help me cancel my account.
todd: I had hoped to use mozy to backup my windows home server. I just signed up a couple minutes ago
Chandra : I will put across your request to the concerned department, they will cancel and refund for the unused time. The processing will take 2-3 business days.
todd: OK, that was all. Just as a side question, what is the space limit for the unlimited account?
Chandra : There is no limit, you can upload as much data as you have....
todd: I has 2TB. can I upload?
Chandra : Yes of course.
todd: and keep it there for $4.95/month?
Chandra : yes.
todd: ok, is there a way to install on Server 2003?
Chandra : Well, you should have a MozyPro account for the same.
todd: ahhh... but then I get charged fifty cents per gig.
Chandra : yes.
todd: so, there is no way for me to install on a WHS machine?
Chandra : I am sorry you cannot install MozyHome in a server.
todd: OK, thank you. Please proceed with the cancellation.
Chandra : Sure...Thank you for contacting mozy, have a nice day !

I'm also testing carbonite on WHS machine. Cannot backup from D:\Shares - I get a "file pending backup when accesible due to permissions" notice... then nothing. The service runs as "system" account and has full access over the directories. I can however backup the files from the C:\fs\x\DE\Shares\ directory but I think this very messy andwill be unable to restore properly in the event of a clean reinstall because the \fs\x\ volume may be mounted as \fs\y or some other letter/path after a full reinstall.

any ideas?

I don't know if there has been software changes but I am running windows home server with carbonite installed with no issues.

I was unable to back up from the shares folder on the desktop so I had to open up explorer and right click the backups from the D drive. The system is running with 4 internal drives that are merged): 3 1 terabytes and a 512gb that came with it.

I have one external USB drive that is not merged with these drives (kept as an incoming file drive before sorting).

I don't know if my use of the D drive rather than the shares is dangerous in some manner to the imaging process but everything seems to be working fine for me.

By default WHS blocks all sites in IE for security purposes. Try Going into the internet explorer options and adding *.* to the trusted sites. this will make your computer less secure (supposedly, im not a security guy) but will allow access to all sites.
