5.10a: I own you

I tried indoor rock climbing just over 2 months ago and fell in love immediately.  Suraj and I started climbing together since it not only gave us an excuse to hang out more but also since we were at the same skill level (read: complete novices).  We ended up liking it so much that we picked up a monthly membership at Vertical World last month.  Vertical World is perfect since their Redmond location making it easy to go there after work to avoid traffic or to go on the weekend at their Ballard location since its literally a 5 mins drive from my house.

This year, one of the goals for 2007 that I’ve set for myself is to complete a 5.10b rated indoor climb.  2 months ago, I would have laughed at this but I’ve been progressing steadily thanks to a 2-3 climb/week regimen.

On Sunday, Suraj and I hit up the Ballard and had the best climb of our illustrious climbing careers.  We knocked off three consecutive 5.10a climbs — talk about a confidence booster!  Given it’s only February, I could really be on track for owning that 5.10b by year’s end.

You should drop Aryan a line when you’re up in YVR during the summer. He can take you outdoor climbing in Squamish. I don’t know if he’s been going indoor or outdoor as much as he used to, but he’s a pretty decent climber.
I dabbled in it for a year or so and it’s a lot of fun and very relaxing, but work kept me away for a while and I lost the touch. You’ve got me thinking aobut it again though!

Wow, I haven’t heard from Aryan in a really long time. I’m reminiscing about those old Future Shop days!
