What is the Digital Locker?

View Comments

I’ve been pimping the Windows Marketplace site the past few weeks on my blog… yes, I’m biased since I work on this team.  However, we really do have some cool stuff going on over there :)

The coolest part of the Windows Marketplace site is the Digital Locker, which not only allows you to purchase and immediately download your software titles (no shipping!), but also stores your purchase and license (e.g. cd keys) information on our site so you can retrieve it whenever you need it.  Remember those painful times when you got a new PC or had to reinstall windows? Ever tried finding those emails or CD cases to reinstall all your software? Ouch.

One of the least known features about the Digital Locker is that you can store software keys for software you’ve purchased elsewhere!  For example, if you’ve purchased Winzip and they email your registration key in email, you can use the Digital Locker to store that key.  Sweet.

We’ve created a brand new page that explains the Digital Locker better than I ever could.  I guess this is why I’m into Program Management and not writing :)
